Web Navigation

Follow these steps when navigating the web. It will make your search go much more smoothly and you will be able to eliminate unwanted sites.

To create folders

On the desktop, click on the Internet Explorer icon

On the tool bar, click on Favorites

Find Add to Favorites; click on it

Click on Create In (arrows should be pointing to the left)

Click on New Folder

at this point name your new folder (type name in)

Click OK and OK again

 

To save sites into your folders as bookmarks

Once on the site you want to bookmark…

1. On the tool bar, click on Favorites

2. Find Add to Favorites

3. Make sure the Create In Arrows are pointing

4. Choose the folder you want to put your site in by highlighting it

5. Name the site

6. Click on OK

 

Doing search on the Internet

Once on the Internet…

1. Choose the search engine you want to look up information in by typing it in the address bar. Ex. WWW.dogpile.com

(If you want your search to be in more than one search engine, go to search engines that are metasearchs. Ex. Dogpile, 37.com)

2. In the search bar, type in the topic you would like to research.

® When entering topics, put words in from the broadest term + a specific term.

® Put " " around words to narrow your search

3. When sites come up, scan for an article that looks interesting to you

4. Double click on it to view it more closely

5. If you like it, bookmark it by putting it into your previously made folder

® Follow bookmarking steps above.

Organizing bookmarks and files

On the internet..

1. Click on Favorites

2. Go to Organize Favorites

At this point you can delete folders, rename folders, create folders and move folders.

 

History Tool

Once on the internet…

On the toolbar, click one time on the History Icon. This will tell you the last sites that were visited on your computer.
