Word

         I. Grammar and Spelling Check

                A. On the Tools Menu, click Option

B. Click Spelling and Grammar tab

*Make sure  "Check spelling as you type" and "Check grammar as you type"   boxes are checked

                C. Choose any other options that you wish to apply

                D. Click the OK box to go back to program

·         Potential errors are underlined in wavy red     or green line:

                Red = spelling errors

                Green = grammar errors

·         To correct an error, move the cursor to the mistake--correct error with keyboard (or)

·         Right-click mouse to display correction suggestions

·         Continue correcting until document is error free

 

        II. Thesaurus Check

                A. Highlight a word that you might wish to replace

                B. Under the Tools Menu, click on Language

                C. Click Thesaurus

                D. Look through options

                E. Choose a replacement word by clicking that word

                F. Click Replace                

 

        III. Bullets and Numbering

                A. Putting bullets or numbers in a new document:

1. To put numbers click on the numbering icon on the formatting tool bar.

                   2. To put in bullets click on the bullet icon on the                           formatting tool bar

              B. Adding bullets or numbers to an existing document:

                   1. Select by highlighting the items to                            which you want to add bullets or                            numbers.

                   2. To add bullets, click the Bullets icon on the                        formatting tool bar.

                

                C. Adding numbers:

1. Click the Numbering icon on the formatting tool bar.

 

    Special Features:

        To change the design or shape of the bullet:

            1.Go to Format on the tool bar.

            2.Select and click on bullets & numbering on the pull                   down menu.

            3.Click on the bulleted tab.

    4.Select and click on the style or design you would

         prefer.

            5.Click on OK.

        For other options on numbering:

            1.Go to Format on the tool bar.

            2.Select and click on bullets & numbering on the pull                 down menu.

            3.Click on the numbered tab.

            4.Select and click on the style or design you would                 prefer.

            5. Click on OK.

        For options on outlining:

            1.Go to Format on the tool bar.

            2. Select and click on bullets & numbering on the pull                 down menu.

            3.Click on the outline numbered tab.

            4. Select and click on the style you would prefer.

            5.Click on OK.

 

        IV. Clip-Art

        A. Placing a picture in your document:

            1. Type in the text of your choice, if needed.

            2. Move the mouse to the insert button on the menu.

            3. Click once to pull up menu.

            4. Highlight picture and then clip art.

            5. Use scroll bar or highlight a category to view pictures.

            6. To select picture click once on your choice  (the                     picture selected will be surrounded by a box).

            7. Click on insert button in the upper right hand corner                    of the Microsoft Clip art gallery screen or double                    click on picture.

           8.  Picture will appear on your document with handles.

        B. To move picture:

            1. Place mouse in middle of picture.

            2. Click and drag picture to appropriate position.

 

        To resize picture:

               1. Move mouse over corner handle until double arrow                     appears.

               2. Hold mouse down while dragging dotted box to the                     size desired.

               3. Click outside box to remove handles.

               4. If unhappy, click on clip art to make handles                       reappear.

 

        To format a disk for word:

           1.     Go to my Computer.

           2.     Click on 3-½ floppy disk.

           3.     Right click and then follow the steps as directed.

 

        To create a table in word:

           1.     Go to table on the tool bar

           2.     Click on insert and table will appear to the right.

           3.     Insert table window will appear now under table size             choose the number of rows and columns you wish.

  4.     Click O.K.

      5.    Putting your curser on rows and then right clicking on it            will allow you to increase size or decrease size of row.

         6.     You may add a row go to tables on tool bar and then           insert.  Click on it and then you may add rows, columns,              cells and a table as needed.

        7.     To delete a row you go to tables on the tool bar and then          click delete.  Now chose to delete table, columns, rows, and          cell.

        8.     Put icon in the column or row you wish to type in and begin

                 to type.
